What's New
SuperNotecard 2.8 introduces the following improvements:
  1. An Open Grid
The new deck display now has a feature that allows you to put decks and cards anywhere on the grid. Keep gaps and spaces, group cards in one area, or leave room for a scene that you have yet to create or a point you're not sure you can make.

  2. More Like An Outline, All the TIme
We've had a tool to output a tidy outline representation of your project, but received a solid suggestion to adorn the standard project export (and print-out) with an outline index prefix. This same outline index prefix can now also be shown in the project explorer. It also appears along side cards related to categories and factors (or references).

  3. Word Lists
We've added the option to pick a custom word file to use for looking up misspellings instead of the few that are included with the application.

  4. SuperNotecard.com
This release of the application formally includes an option to import decks and cards that you create online at www.supernotecard.com using your web enabled smartphone or iPhone. SuperNotecard license holders should visit supernotecard.com and register for free to start creating project content while away from your desk.

Improvements Since 2.7
  1. Very Moving
Sure you can drag things around, but with projects that become as vast as Texas, we designed a mechanism to easily move decks and cards by picking a new location from a list. Move it to the beginning or end and choose to either follow the thing or stay put.

  2. Custom Font & Size Options within Cards
Well we've avoided getting fancy (and frankly distracted) by equipping SuperNotecard with endless buttons to make your documents look pretty and until now left this work to other steps in the process. However, there are many practical reasons for needing a variety of fonts and sizes in your cards, so we've added a way to define and use custom styles.

  3. Search & Replace
Now search in order to replace and include a "whole word" option. A handful of other user-interface refinements and repairs complete this crucial tool.

  4. Keystrokes
Always fun.... more keystrokes. Use CTRL key on Windows and the CMD key on Macs.

    • CTRL+1 = expand tier one beneath Home in the Project Explorer
    • CTRL+2 = expand tier two beneath Home in the Project Explorer
    • CTRL+SHIFT+1 = collapse tier one beneath Home in the Project Explorer
    • CTRL+SHIFT+2 = collapse tier two beneath Home in the Project Explorer
    • CTRL+T = Show/Hide the project navigation bar

  5. Odds and Ends
    • Pass your mouse over the deck display category and reference markers to see their titles
    • Reorganized the right-click menu (CTRL+click on Macs)
    • This version includes the ability to copy sections of text from one card to another AND preserve any related style information. You can also expect to copy this styled text to other RTF-aware programs like your word processor and vice versa.
    • Custom Microsoft Windows menu font. Now configure the app's workspace file to alter the application's menu font and size. When the application is closed, edit the workspace_1_6.xml file located at:
      Documents & Settings/ [ user name ] /.mindola/sncs

Add the following to the file and save:
    • Repair coordinates for row and column layouts with imported text
    • Outline Numbering refined so that the counting resets for each major element of the project.
    • Fixed single letter Reference and Factor keywords; changed it to allow punctuation in the keyword search criteria.
    • Added the option to hide Reference descriptions for export
    • Added feature to make the flag blank. From the requester: "I'd like the ability to add a note without a flag. It can be handy to include notes that don't increase word count, but the various graphical signals of a flag's presence are unnecessary if I don't need the note to draw any special attention to a card.

Improvements Since 2.6
  1. Peeling Category Stickers
Previously adding categories to cards in just the right order was rough work. Now you can change the order of the category assignments via drag and drop. While in the deck display, you can also easily remove a category by dragging it off the card.

  2. Misspelled Words and References Scanner
Inspecting large amounts of text to find misspelled words and Reference or Factor keywords can really tax the program. In the prior release this was done every time the card loaded from the beginning to the end of the card text. Now we've add an important layer of logic to only inspect areas of the text that you're working on or viewing. This simple change has produced a much more responsive application.

  3. Quick Search with a Card
Need to find keywords in the card that you're editing in a flash and repeat the lookup? Now press F8 or the magnifying glass along the right of the card text editing area to enter keywords to search. Press F8 repeatedly to advance through the entire text looking for repeat instances of the keywords.

  4. Odds and Ends
    • In the deck display the element title and text are now the same size
    • Added Paste to the right-click menu within cards and decks
    • Fixed Mac Leopard issue where URL links failed to launch Safari
    • Show the related card index number in the Reference or Factor display
    • Factor characteristics icons missing
    • Repaired an issue with Flatten mode in which you could add cards that don't appear
    • Add the option to preview the content for decks and cards selected via the deck display
    • Revised faulty logic so that when you drop new elements into a deck that's arranged in columns or rows, the elements are added to the same column or row as the last item rather than adding new columns or rows.

Improvements Since 2.5
  1. Now You Know What to Do With Color
We've added a new color management tool to ease color picking and to distinguish how colors are used throughout the project. With a new favorites section, you can import and export your color-coding strategies to other projects and other SuperNotecard installations.

  2. Snappy Factor and Reference Attachments
Link a new character to your card and immediately add notes to describe the relationship. Have page numbers, URLs or files that you need to attach? Now this is a single step when assigning your references.

  3. With Some Regret
We used mini pop-up selectors in several key aspects of the program. In this release, we undid the bad that we'd done.

  4. Prominent Decks
Decks can now be colored and optionally adorned with a binderclip to better differentiate them from cards. We added a little more height to them as well. In the Display Options, you can elect to have the deck's color become the background color of your work area. Similarly if you don't like this approach you can keep the default background, even for colored cards.

  5. Slicker Flags
In the latest release you have better control of what to flag in the deck display; when you do flag, the appearance in the application is done more efficiently and elegantly.

  6. Odds and Ends
    • Automatic locale-specific date formatting
    • Cmd+Delete is out because it conflicts with text editing
    • Evil thread conflict when loading projects from icons on Macs is gone
    • Invoke the project notes from the view menu
    • Eliminate clutter in the deck display toolbar
    • Add selected text word count to pop-up on deck and card editor
    • Add strikeout format to card toolbar to help with edits
    • Show card and deck color within the icon and not outside the icon for better clarity

Improvements Since 2.2 (build 29)
  1. Optimize the Deck Display
Visit the Deck Display options to enable the new "Optimized" mode and show more elements on your screen. This mode hides the deck title and description and leaves the rest for your cards.

  2. Give your Cards more Color
In this release you can elect to make your cards something other than white. Now click the toolbar's color button to colorize selected cards.

  3. Export or Print Selected Deck Items
Select an item and choose to simply print or export it using your customary output preferences. Save paper and time by exporting/printing only the project elements that you need.

  4. Un-Trash more Easily
In this release we've made it easier to drag things out of the trash. Copy individual items and paste them back into your project.

  5. Bugs We Missed
We've repaired the mysterious "Cut" bug, and re-coded the mechanism that detects whether you're copying elements or element text. We've also found a way to improve how to move things around the project explorer. Now drag to the parent deck (from within the same deck) and get the element into the first position. The ability to Cut factors has been eliminated (too dangerous) and replaced with "Move to Trash".

Improvements Since 2.2
  1. Card Exports Everything
As you organize and create relationships between your cards and sources or characters in your project, and as you continue to annotate the significance of these ties, SuperNotecard is now equipped to elegantly export these handy hints to your favorite word processing program. Enable "Include References and Factors" in the Export/Print options in the applications Preferences.

  2. Deck Word Count
Open your deck, press the refresh button in lower-right, and quickly get a word count for all of its elements and sub-elements.

  3. Interface Clean Up
We've added a better way to see what's selected in your deck and increased the size and organization of the context pop-up menus.

  4. Quality
This release addresses several important quality issues, ranging from project file corruption to search & replace kinks to reference and factor duplication errors.

Improvements Since 2.1
  1. References & Factor Folders
Now create folders to combine related References or Factors to make it easier to locate and attach these elements to your cards. The Reference & Factor editor has also been redesigned to simplify the management of keywords, related cards and associated folders.

  2. Timeline Category
SuperNotecard 2.1 adds features to help writers see their content along a timeline. Previously with cards organized in non-chronological order, it becomes tough to see what content relates to the same point in time. Using a fiction example, one deck might include cards that track John's perspective while another deck might treat Sally's perspective in chapter 2. In either case it's difficult to see cards for both John and Sally that represent some point in time, like the first day of school or Monday's lunch. SuperNotecard 2.1 introduces a special type of category called a Point in Time Category to help group different elements into a time line.

  3. Miscellaneous Enhancements
    • Bigger cards
    • References & Factors are now represented using colored circles rather than colored squares
    • Add "All" selection to Categories list
    • Prompt when using the delete key in the Deck Display

  4. Miscellaneous Repairs
    • Spelling suggestions pop-up
    • Deck-display context menu causes sporadic mouse-click freeze
    • Printing issues in cards with formatting
    • File shortcut broken on Windows computer
    • Mac failure when attempting to double-click project that's also the last open project
    • Categories incorrectly required both unique colors and titles

Improvements since Version 2.0
  1. Column & Row Deck Display Layout
In the past SuperNotecard used a basic wrapping approach to the layout of deck elements. In the latest release we introduced an entirely different approach to allow writers to arrange elements into rows or columns. The layout of elements using these new modes won't shift as the size of the application window changes. Now you can group cards into rows to underscore some relationship or separate off others that need work.

  2. Deck Display Factor, Reference, & Category Key
While its easy to mark cards and attach references and characters, it can become confusing to keep the color coding straight. SuperNotecard 2.0 introduces a deck display "key" to display these elements. Use your mouse to drag-n-drop them onto cards.

  3. Deck Display Title & Description Quick Edits
Now type a character or use the Alt (win) or Option (mac) -Click with the mouse to instantly display the title & description of every element in the deck display. In the latest release, start typing to make adjustments without leaving the display.

  4. Project Explorer Sequence Numbering
As your project grows, use the application Preferences to enable the option to display the card sequence number (representing card number out of number of all cards) in the project explorer.

  5. Printing Slices
Print all Factors or References, or print all cards related to a particular factor or reference. Print all elements related to a specific category, or print a bunch of selected cards via the Deck Display

  6. Miscellaneous
    • With Auto Save can now control the number of backups to create
    • Maximize card editing space with quick stroke to hide related factors or references
    • Improved Project Find and Replace
    • Press the 'T' to annotate card's related factors and references as text rather than as list
    • Import tab-delimited text into an existing project
    • Create a file shortcut as a reference detail
    • On Macs create and save a project to your computer and now double-click to reload, just like every other program on the planet
    • Use the magic Ctrl (win) or Cmd (mac) L to quickly insert factors or references into card content without slowing down to reach for the mouse
    • Performance tuning
